Family fun at Biggar duathlon

ALMOST 50 people aged between 10 and 50 got on their bikes – and ran – in and around Biggar Sports Centre during a fun family duathlon.

Participants sprinted down to the local park and around the boating pond before returning to the sports centre and climbing onto static bikes for a 10-minute ride before repeating the run.

In attendance was local Councillor Hamish Stewart, who said: “Mums, dads and children were running the race at the same time and it was very competitive.

“All the people taking part looked as if they were really enjoying themselves.

“That was great to see because NHS studies have shown that doing exercise helps keep you younger and fitter and, generally speaking, in good health.

“It doesn’t need to be violent exercise. It just needs to be appropriate to an individual at whatever stage of their life they’re at.”
