Fling-time for speedy Springburn Harriers

SPRINGBURN Harriers ventured to Milngavie recently to take part in the Hoka Highland Fling (pictured).

Seasoned club runners Willie Munro and brothers Grant and Iain Cairns were taking on the gruelling 53-mile race up the West Highland Way to Tyndrum. Meanwhile, other runners in the club opted for the slightly easier option of working together in a relay team – doing sections of between 12 and 14 miles. With 362 people completing the full 53 miles and 224 participating in the relay it was a great event that now in its seventh year. Springburn’s men’s team did well to complete the course in 7 hours and 56 minutes. The mixed team managed to secure second place in the team event, covering the whole course in eight hours and six minutes.

Club vice-president John Owens also had a now traditional family contingent running the relay race – the Rough Running Owens completing the course in nine hours and five minutes.

The individual results were: Willie Munro 10.45.32; Grant Cairns 10.58.09; and Iain Cairns 11.14.29.

Springburn Harriers are open to new members of all abilities. You can benefit from great coaching and the support of other runners. The club meet at 7.15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Huntershill House, Bishopbriggs.
