Analysis: Motherwell FC's top quintet of performers so far this season

Motherwell performed well for long spells against Hearts but paid for not scoring when they were bossing possession in the first 25 minutes and ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline.

Here, we pick out Motherwell’s top five performers of the season so far.

1 Gael Bigirimana. The Burundian has picked up many man of the match awards already this season after a series of accomplished displays. It was no coincidence that an off day for Bigi against Hearts led to the Steelmen’s first defeat in four games.

2 Richard Tait. Widely touted for a Scotland international call-up due to his consistent displays, fans’ favourite Tait continues to impress with his defensive duties and forages forward.

3 Danny Johnson. Four goals in league and cup this season for the striker, who gives ’Well something different with his nippy style which has a fair amount of skill thrown in. With Curtis Main going through a goal drought just now, it is vital that Johnson keeps chipping in with the goals starting with this week’s trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen.

4Tom Aldred. With Cedric Kipre sold, Charles Dunne injured, Peter Hartley just getting back to full fitness after a long term injury and goalie Trevor Carson also facing a spell on the sidelines, Aldred’s solid and reliable displays have been very important for the Steelmen. Compared to the line-up in May’s Scottish Cup final, Aldred looks likely to be the only one of those five names who will start against Aberdeen this weekend.

5 Allan Campbell. The Scotland under-21 star has looked back to his best recently after an understandably slow start to the season after his summer exploits with Scotland U21s.
