Back to basics of league business for Cumbernauld Colts

Colts defeated Glasgow University 3-0 at Broadwood on Sunday to book their plavce in the second round draw which takes place tomorrow.

But while admitting that it was a terrific occasion for the club, co-manager Craig McKinlay has quickly switched focus back to the league as his side travel to Preston Athletic looking to maintain their unbeaten away record.

McKinlay said: “Obviously Sunday was a great occasion for the club and the result was very pleasing.

“It was important that we remained focussed on the job in hand and made sure we got through to the next round and I was very pleased with the way the players did that.

“They had been looking forward to the Scottish Cup so it wasn’t difficult for them to make sure they concentrated on the job they had to do on the park.

“I thought it was a good, professional performance. We were in control and could have won by more in the end, but the main aim was to get the job done and go through and that’s what they did.”

The Lowland League new boys are seventh in the table, four places above Saturday’s opponents Preston.

McKinlay said: “We’ve had a couple of reports on them and I expect a difficult match.

“But the players are on a bit of a high after winning in the cup and we have a good record on our travels this season so hopefully we can continue that.”
