Blue Brazil knock Clyde out of cup

Following their win over Scottish League One side Ayr United in the Petrofac Training Cup last week, the Broadwood outfit succumbed to a late goal at the hands of Cowdenbeath in the second round of the League Cup.

In his second competitive match new Bully Wee boss Barry Ferguson named the same starting line-up as last week.

The first half of the match was fairly even, with Kyle Miller coming close to opening the scoring for Cowdenbeath, but Jamie Barclay pulled off a good stop.

Clyde enjoyed a good spell of pressure just before the interval, which eventually resulted in a goal.

A Scott McManus effort hit the bar and shortly afterwards Kevin Watt saw his shot parried away by the keeper.

Right on the half-time whistle David Gray fired in a fantastic 25-yard shot into the net to put Clyde one up.

Scottish Championship side Cowdenbeath managed to get on level terms early in the secnod half.

An error in the Clyde midfield gave Lewis Milne possession he fired a shot into the net.

Play swung from end to end as both sides looked for a winner.

However, in injury time, following a John Sweeney effort being blocked on the line, Cowdenbeath’s Kyle Miller finished off a well-worked counter-attack to seal victory for the visitors.

Clyde were due to find out their opponents in the next round of the Petrofac Training Cup last night, as Rangers took on Hibernian, the winners facing the Bully Wee in the second round of the competition on August 19/20.
