Boss chat inspires Clyde star Ferguson to hit top form

Put simply, the 20-year old was unplayable at times during the side’s 2-0 home win over East Fife at the weekend.

Ferguson scored both goals, the pair of them absolute screamers, and a demonstration of just what talent he has in his boots.

His ability has never been in doubt, but the youngster said it took a one on one chat with gaffer Barry Ferguson to remind him that he needed to have the application to get the best out of his talents.

The midfielder had struggled to pin down a regular starting berth in the side until pulled in by his boss.

And the 20-year-old reckons it’s done him good.

He said: “The gaffer has had a bit of a talk with me.

“I know myself that what I was doing was well below what I could do so I had to step myself up.

“I’ve been doing extra in the gym and been out running to get myself fitter and that’s helped me a lot.

“I feel stronger during games now.”

Ferguson said the words of his gaffer gave him all the encouragement needed to find his form again.

“It was a pretty one sided chat!” he joked.

“He pulled me into the office and had a good 15-20 minute talk with me.

“But it’s worked.”

Ferguson’s first goal was a sublime volley shortly before the break.

If his first was good, then his second was great.

With the Fife defence backing off, Ferguson rifled a 30 yard screamer into the top corner.

“I don’t think I’ve scored a better goal in my career than the second one,” he said.

“But I’m delighted to get the win.

“It was great to get the applause from the fans and then to go over and celebrate with them.

“The result keeps us fighting up there.

“We have a game in hand so bring that on, then bring Annan on on Boxing Day.

“If we beat them then we’re top.”
