Brand new look for Pollok team

The lucky youngsters of a southside football team have received brand new strips, courtesy of a well-known opticians.

Specsavers stores at Newlands and Sauchiehall Street sponsored Pollok United 2008, and the lads were delighted to receive their new gear from top flight Scottish FA referee Steven McLean.

Sarah Freel, store director at Specsavers, said: “We hope the strips give them an extra spring in their step when playing in their future games.”

Ian Finlayson, head coach, said: ‘We are really grateful for the support we have received from Specsavers.

“I know all the boys are extremely excited to be playing in brand new strips, they all train really hard each week and play really well together as a team.”

The 2008 team is made up of enthusiastic youngsters aged eight to nine, who train weekly on a Tuesday evening at the Dennis Donnelly Park in Glasgow.

The team is part of the Pollok United Soccer Academy, which has an SFA Community Club status.
