Broadwood hosts charity football tournament

The annual community-run football tournament which raises money for hospices took place at Broadwood Stadium last weekend.

Organiser John Bleasdale thanks everyone who contributed to the event, which saw 16 teams compete in glorious weather.

“Tesco Bank, a team from Glasgow, won the tournament but the charity teams representing CHAS and St Andrew’s Hospice also did well,” he said.

Snack and drinks sales will have done a lot to boost the takings going to these good causes too. John added: “We sold out of cakes and candy, as well as all the drinks donated to us by Barr’s.”

On Monday John had not yet had a chance to count all the cash raised, but will soon be presenting it to the charities.
