Clyde took the lead after 20 minutes when Pat Scullion gathered a Sean Fitzharris pass on the edge of the box and lobbed the ball over Shire keeper Grant Hay and into the top of the net.

However, it wasn’t long before the visitors were back on level terms.

A Nathan Shepherd run into the box came to an end when he was brought down by John Kane and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Paul Quinn stepped up and scored the penalty.

Kevin Watt then missed a chance to score before the half-time break, but he couldn’t direct his header on target.

Soon after the interval, the same player made amends, converting Stuart McColm’s neat cross at the back post to make it 2-1.

Jamie Barclay did have to react sharply on a couple of occasions as Shire went looking for an equaliser.

In the final minute, McColm almost sealed the victory, but his shot was cleared off the line.
