Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir delighted to bring in new striker Kalvin Hill

The collapse of a deal to sign a mystery ex-Lanark United striker hasn’t deterred Carluke Rovers gaffer Mark Weir from bringing in a new forward.

For, on Monday night, Weir completed the signing of Kalvin Hill 19, who was on the books of Kirkintilloch Rob Roy last season.

“I’m glad I’ve got Kalvin because I know Lesmahagow were chasing him,” Weir said.

"I’m delighted that I’ve got him, a young prospect and a good boy for the future.

"He’s got everything. He’s got pace, a hunger for the game. I can’t wait to see him in a game.

"My assistant manager Kenny Neill knows him very well. He had him at his boys clubs. I’ve heard good reports about him; he’s a local lad which is a good thing.”

Meanwhile, Ross Forsyth has been appointed as Rovers’ new under-20s coach, assisted by Eric Dunion.

Weir said: “I had a good chat with Ross on Monday night. He’s from Bellshill. I think he took the Belshill under-19s or whatever it was.

"They have basically brought that team with them and they’re going to put the Carluke under-20s team together, hopefully getting a good team out of both squads.

"I’ll be looking for Ross to bring as many boys through to my squad hopefully and produce a few starlets.”

In a further boost to Rovers, first team goalkeepers Dean Wilson and Adam Brown have agreed to stay into next season.

"At the moment I’ve got a bit of a headache,” Weir said. “It’s an even split so they’ll both get their fair share of pre-season games and then it’s down to myself and Kenny to decide who will start off as number one.”

Weir viewed six trialists at training on Monday night and is keen to add “two or three more” new signings to bring his squad up to 18 players for the new season.
