Celtic and Rangers prepare to go head-to-head in a game that could make or break the Premiership title race this afternoon.

Heading into today’s match, Ange Postecoglou’s reigning champions have a commanding nine-point lead over their city rivals at the league summit, while Rangers are on an impressive unbeaten run of their own under Michael Beale.

However, they haven’t had much joy at Celtic Park in recent years and return to the venue without a win in five previous visits. The Ibrox side must claim maximum points to stand any chance of overhauling the Hoops this season.

They will require a massive performance in front of a capacity 60,000 home crowd due to there being no away fans allowed inside the ground.

Johnston’s attempted clearance hits off the back of defensive partner Carter-Vickers and the ball breaks kindly for the unmarked Morelos but Joe Hart is equal to the Colombian’s strike from 10 yards out and pushes the ball behind for a corner. An important save as Rangers apply some pressure.

A clumsy challenge from Aaron Mooy on Morelos sees the Australian become the sixth player to be shown a yellow card.

We’re back underway... a big 45 minutes in store for both teams.

Tavernier’s goal was met with complete silence due Rangers having no fans inside the ground but how crucial could that moment prove to be? Michael Beale’s side have given a good account of themselves so far. Which way will this derby go now? Stand by for another rollercoaster second half as both teams make their way back out onto the pitch...

BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English tells Sportsound: “It’s a fascinating game. It’s a real battle. Rangers have come to compete and they’re working their socks off. They are refusing to allow Celtic to get into their dangerous rhythm. They’re interrupting, hassling and harrying. It’s very intense.”

A thing of beauty from Tavernier as he equalises late int he first-half and here’s how...

It’s been a lively opening 45 minutes at Celtic Park as both teams head down the tunnel on level terms.

Kyogo had fired Celtic in front and it looked as though Rangers were under the cosh, but James Tavernier’s sublime free-kick has hauled his team mates back into the contest. All to play for...

Todd Cantwell become the fifth player to be cautioned for a lunging challenge near the touchline.

Rangers are back on level terms right on the stroke of half-time and what a goal it is from James Tavernier! A simply unstoppable 20-yard free-kick from the skipper as he bends the ball Celtic over the defensive wall and it kisses the underside of the crossbar on its way in.

Callum McGregor and Nicolas Raskin go into referee Kevin Clancy’s notebook for a bit of argy-bargy. Minutes later, Malik Tillman nips in front of O’Riley, who wipes out the Bayern Munich loanee to give Rangers a free-kick in a promising position as we approach half-time.

Kyogo Furuhashi breaks the deadlock and here’s how...

The home crowd are in full voice now and right behind their team after Kyogo settles any first-half nerves. It appears Ange Postecoglou’s side are growing in confidence, which could spell trouble for Rangers.

Moments after Malik Tillman drags an effort wide from the edge of the penalty area, Allan McGregor is forced to keep out Jota’s long-range effort. The Hoops winger is causing all sorts of problems down the right flank. Rangers currently hanging on...

Kyogo Furuhashi breaks the deadlock after 25 minutes with a neat finish on the turn after latching onto Matt O’Riley’s clever cut-back. It’s his 27 goal of the season.

Greg Taylor started the move, setting O’Riley free on the left-hand side of the box. It’s a great pick out from the ex-MK Dons midfielder and a top-class finish.

This time it’s Rangers who have the ball in the net through Alfredo Morelos... but whistler Clancy chops it off immediately. The Colombian pokes home at the back post from a corner but is penalised for a slight push on Alastair Johnston. Television replays suggest it looks rather harsh and play continues after a quick VAR review.

Sky Sports co-commentators Ally McCoist and Andy Walker have questioned the decision and criticised Nick Walsh who is at the VAR controls.

McGregor called into action again

The veteran Rangers stopper is called into action once again after 17 minutes, pushing away Jota’s powerful effort after the Poruguese winger cut in from the right. Rangers allowed Callum McGregor to much space to drive forward into from midfield

Michael Beale was looking for a fast start from his Rangers team and it’s fair to say he will be pleased with how his players have began the contest, forcing Celtic into a few uncharacteristic mistakes and pressing high up the park as the clock ticks past the 15-minute mark.

Callum McGregor has an effort from the left-hand side of the penalty area comfortably held by Allan McGregor.
