History-makers Celtic couldn't have dreamed of making a better start to the new-look Champions League against the lowest-ranked side in the competition.
Slovan Bratislava were mauled by Brendan Rodgers’s slick side on their tournament debut at Parkhead - a feeling Hoops fans have become well accustomed to themselves in recent years. There was no need to panic on this occasion as the hosts quickly asserted their authority and took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Five goals. Five different scorers. There was pressure beforehand to make their mark back in Europe’s elite tournament and they duly delivered with a ruthless attacking display which proved too much for the Slovakian champions.
Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate ran the show against opponents thats were spooked from the outset. With trips to Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta, plus a home tie with RB Leipzig to come, tougher tests lie ahead for Celtic.
However, this was an emphatic start and acted as an early statement of intent as Rodgers’ men reignited the European flame at Celtic Park as they target a place in the top 24.
Here, GlasgowWorld takes a look at the story of the match through the camera lenses from photographers placed around the ground to capture the best of the action.
