Six players are out of contract at Celtic next summer and decisions will need made on their futures.
The Hopps have enjoyed a rampant start to the domestic scene, having won all their games. In Europe, a 5-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava was followed up with a humbling defeat to Borussia Dortmund, the 7-1 margin sparking some soul searching.

Hide AdMany stars both in the youthful and experienced bracket are in at Celtic for the long haul. But some have terms expiring this summer. Here, GlasgowWorld sees what’s what in the keep or release rankings over 6 players.
Scott Bain - Release
A loyal deputy but Sligo Rovers friendly was the latest match where he’s made errors. No doubt a good goalkeeper but 33 by the time the season ends. If he still wants to play, probably has to move on.
Josh Clarke - Release
Now 20 and out on loan at Ayr United. Potential is there but with Viljami Sinisalo seemingly targeted as the long-term number one, chances of minutes may be slim here. Could benefit from a new permanent home.
Joey Dawson - Release
Signed in 2021 from Scunthorpe United but injury luck has been rotten. After recovery from one knee injury, he’s suffered another and hasn’t featured for the ‘B’ team since March 2023. An exit seems likely but perhaps a player Celtic will help through rehab after he’s fully fit again, even if an extended contract isn’t on offer.

Hide AdJames Forrest - Keep
It’s hard to imagine Celtic without the veteran winger. At the peak of his powers? No, but he was inspirational down the stretch last campaign and still has moments of magic. Even in a bit-part role, his experience is huge.
Kasper Schmeichel - Keep
Another experience campaigner, Schmeichel has looked every bit the elite level keeper that has won a Premier League title previously. Makes sense for another year.
A man who’s had his critics yet those who challenge him have been unable to move in from the starting XI under multiple gaffers. Someone who should be offered a new four-year deal, minimum.
