Adam Idah responds to latest Celtic announcement as he's left loving contract news out of Parkhead
The Swansea City man is over the moon for his old Celtic teammate
Former Celtic man Adam Idah has reacted to the news that James Forrest has extended his stay at the club.
The 34-year old one club man was set to leave the club in the summer after 17 years but has now signed a one-year deal after weeks of contract negotiations. Having won 13 Scottish Premierships, seven Scottish Cups and six League Cups, as well as a plethora of individual accolades, the winger is Celtic’s most decorated player of all time.
The news comes out of Parkhead only days after Forrest played an instrumental role in getting them over the line against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-final, where Celtic prevailed 6-2 after extra time. He will now have a chance to build on the 110 goals he’s scored for the club in 564 appearances. The Hoops announced Forrest’s contract extension via social media and Idah was one of the first to react.
Idah reacts to Forrest contract news
An Instagram post from Celtic confirmed Forrest was extending his Hoops stay. It read, “Our most decorated Celt goes again. James Forrest signs on for another year, extending his stay until 2027,” to which, the Swansea man commented three hearty-eye emojis.
Following the announcement, Forrest himself claimed he’s delighted to stay on for an 18th year, which will also give him a chance to extend his record of scoring in consecutive campaigns, having a registered a league goal every year since the 2009/10 season. He said: "I've been here my full career and I've loved every minute of it. I'll just give my best to the club for however long I'll be here. I can hopefully keep contributing. When I do stop, I will look back on so many great memories, but hopefully I can make a few more before I do finish."
O’Neill on Forrest extending stay
While Forrest has found himself mostly coming off the bench this season for Martin O’Neill, the St Mirren display showed he does still possess quality despite his ageing legs. The Celtic boss is hoping the Scotsman can finish his career at the club where it all started. Forrest made his debut in a 4-0 win against Motherwell in May 2010 under Neil Lennon.
The veteran boss said: "I really want James to finish his career here at Celtic. I just didn't want him going elsewhere, and I think he wanted that as well. But the major point about taking anyone on is to know whether they're worth an extra year and James has proved this season that he has been worth that. He has changed games, and he has done wonderfully well. His contribution in recent weeks when he's come off the bench has been absolutely terrific, and he has deserved it. So, take sentimentality right out of it. He's been immense since Neil Lennon brought him in. Even to have that little burst of pace at his age is worth its weight in gold."
