Three US curveballs thrown over Wilfried Nancy to Celtic, Rangers and Hoops hit by 'terrible' dig on BBC show
The latest news from both Rangers and Celtic as the International break draws to a close.
Celtic have been told that the Wilfried Nancy deal is far from done, while both Rangers and their Glaswegian rivals have had shots fired at them on a BBC quiz.
While Nancy’s Parkhead arrival seems to be inevitable from Columbus Crew, there are still some hoops the Celtic board will need to jump through to get their man. A recent Celtic statement read that Martin O’Neill will remain in charge for now, however the timescale of his interim stint is still unknown. Nancy has now reportedly reached the advanced talks stage of proceedings in the managerial appointment process.
On the other side of the city, Rangers are looking ahead to the second half of the season with Danny Rohl. He has won three games on the bounce in the league and has a chance to make that four versus Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday. Here’s a look at the latest news stories coming out of both Celtic Park and Ibrox.
Columbus Crew’s position on Nancy remains ‘unchanged’
According to prominent Columbus Sportswriter, Michael Arace, Columbus Crew are still planning ahead to next season with Nancy as their boss. The 48-year old’s contract at the MLS side reportedly runs beyond 2026.
Arace said: “Crew coach Wilfried Nancy reportedly spent the weekend in London meeting with Celtic F.C. principal owner. Crew official response remains unchanged: Nancy is still under contract with Crew, Crew has not been contacted by Celtic and Nancy and GM (General Manager) Issa Tall continue to plan for next MLS season.”
In what is must be an alarming sign for the Celtic board, The Crew’s stance on Nancy may be a sign that the deal is far from over yet. In the meantime, Martin O’Neill is expected to be in the Celtic dugout yet again this weekend, in their league clash against St Mirren on Saturday night.
Rangers fall victim to playful ‘terrible’ dig on BBC quiz show
The much-loved tv quiz show, Only Connect, hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell is very rarely a topic for Scottish Football. However, on Monday night’s show, a contestant took the opportunity to have a dig at both sides of the Old Firm, when a Glasgow-based football question came up.
In the first round of the brain-numbing quiz, contestants had to guess the connection between ‘Armies of Sauron,’ ‘Lord Zedd,’ ‘Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo’ and ‘Celtic’. The answer of which was that they are all ‘enemies of Rangers.’
Scottish contestant, Steve Erdal got the question right and was subsequently asked by the host, “you’re from Scotland, which one do you support (Rangers or Celtic)?” To which he responded playfully, “neither, they’re both terrible.”
