Meanwhile, Aberdeen, who are remarkably the most in-form team in Europe’s top 50 league’s, find themselves joint top of the table and only narrowly behind the Hoops on goal difference with an equally impressive seven wins from seven matches.

It’s all set to be a cracker on the return of top-flight football after the international break, yet remarkably this fixture has not been selected for TV coverage.

Here we take a look at the reasons behind that decision, whilst also taking a look at the team news from both camps.

When is Celtic vs Aberdeen?

League leaders Celtic play host to second place Aberdeen on Saturday 19 October. The match at Parkhead takes place during the 3pm blackout and has not been selected for TV coverage.

Why is Celtic vs Aberdeen not on TV?

TV broadcaster Premier Sports had recently signed a contract giving them the right to 20 additional Premiership games throughout the season, but Celtic’s clash with Aberdeen will not be one of those games.

The Daily Mail has revealed that Celtic ‘opted out’ of an SPFL contract that gave Premier Sports the rights to televise a further 20 Scottish Premiership games this season. This deal was on top of the current Sky Sports contract that has allowed Celtic fans to watch their heroes in action in away grounds across Scotland.

Celtic chose not to take up the option as they wanted to avoid a situation where they inconvenienced season ticket holders, who had already made travel arrangements to attend upcoming matches.

They rejected the deal despite being offered a reported £75,000 per match with a maximum of £150,000 if two games at Parkhead were to be broadcast.
