Celtic flop who acknowledged Hoops spell didn't go to plan offered Bundesliga escape route

Danish champions to offer towering striker a chance to rebuild his confidence after season-ending injury in Scotland

Tomas Cvancara could be given the chance to breathe new life into his faltering career with Danish champions Aarhus after a frustrating spell at Celtic left his Bundesliga future in serious doubt.

The Czech striker is facing an uncertain period at Borussia Monchengladbach after discovering that he has slipped down the pecking order at the German club, with a fresh loan move now potentially on the cards.

Cvancara spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, arriving in Glasgow in January with hopes of making a major impact. However, his spell in Scotland proved to be a frustrating one, with the 26-year-old scoring just twice in the league for the Hoops.

His season was then cut short in April when he suffered a torn adductor muscle, bringing an abrupt end to his time at Parkhead and preventing him from building any momentum towards the end of the campaign.

Cvancara posted an emotional message to supporters on social media after confirming he would require surgery and acknowledged that his individual contribution hadn't been what he hoped:

“Honestly, this is not how I imagined my season at Celtic coming to an end, and not the way I wanted it to finish,” he said. “But despite everything, I’m truly grateful that I had the chance to be part of this club, this team, and these moments.

“I know that it was not so many individual moments as I wanted it to be, but every time I stepped on the pitch, I always tried to help the team and give everything for the badge. And to all the fans: THANK YOU for every message, every bit of support and the energy you gave me. It really meant a lot.”

Danish champions eye Cvancara to strengthen attack

Cvancara returned to Germany over the summer, but his prospects of forcing his way back into the Gladbach first team appear slim as things stand. He has now reportedly been informed that he is regarded as their fifth-choice striker, leaving him with a major uphill battle to force his way back into the first-team picture.

That situation could lead to another temporary switch away from the club, with Aarhus GF emerging as a potential destination. The Danes are looking to bolster their attacking options after enduring a difficult start to their title defence.

Aarhus have failed to win any of their opening four league matches, leaving them with plenty of ground to make up if they are to retain their crown.

Their struggles have also extended beyond the domestic competition, with their European campaign proving short-lived. Aarhus have already been knocked out from both the Champions League and Europa League, meaning their focus turn towards recovering their fortunes domestically.

That has prompted the club to explore the possibility of adding Cvancara - a transfer that could represent a valuable opportunity for the towering frontman to hit the reset button.
