Celtic flop with £4m buyout clause sends clear transfer message over his future amid current standoff

The Hoops winger still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract with the Scottish champions

Forgotten Celtic flop Luis Palma has revealed he wants to turn his loan move at Lech Poznan into a permanent deal - even though the final decision is out of his hands.

The Honduran international joined the Polish club on a season-long loan last summer and they have the right to exercise a clause that would allow them to buy the winger for £4m at the end of the campaign.

However, that would almost DOUBLE Poznan’s record transfer fee and club officials have repeatedly made it clear that they would need Celtic to lower their demands to allow them to sign Palma on a long-term contract.

But the 26-year-old, who still has two-and-a-half years to run on his current Hoops deal, has outlined his stance on the situation by indicating he wants to stay in Poland beyond the summer following a productive spell.

That comes despite Palma being dropped to the bench in recent weeks.

He told Canal Plus Sport: “I hope to stay at Lech Poznan for a long time, but it’s not just my decision. I’m doing my thing day by day and I’m very happy about it. All I can do is keep doing that, but not everything depends on me.

“I have been a substitute in recent matches and that’s the decision of the manager. But I always have the team’s best interests at heart. I am working hard to get my place back in the team. That’s football for you.”

Palma signed for the Scottish champions on a five-year deal in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £3.5m. However, he failed to make the impact that many fans had hoped for and quickly fell down the pecking order for a starting berth.

He was shipped out to Olympiacos in February last year, but the Greek giants decided against taking up their option-to-buy the wide man. He returned to Glasgow for pre-season before heading back out on loan to Poznan, where he appears to have settled well.
