A Celtic-linked star is being linked with a move to the Championship after missing out on promotion.

A player recently linked with Celtic is now being tipped to link up with a new Championship club down South. Harrison Burrows was tipped to join the Hoops during the most recent January transfer window amid impressive performances with Peterborough United, but a move never materialised.

Burrows scored 12 and assisted 18 during a hugely impressive campaign, but Posh ultimately lost in the play-offs, and they now face losing one of their most influential players. According to The News, Portsmouth, who won League One and promotion to the Championship, are now considering a deal to sign Burrows.

Peterborough are said to be ready to cash in on Burrows, given the full-back only has 12 months remaining on his current contract, with Posh having activated their right to add an extra year. Faced with losing Burrows for free next year, Peterborough are likely to sell this summer, but the report adds that the asking price may be above what Portsmouth are willing to pay, given they also have other areas to address given they are making the jump to Championship.

The fee is not mentioned, but it is highlighted that a £5million bid has been rejected in the past. Celtic could afford to buy the 22-year-old if their interest is to be rekindled, but there is also reported interest from Coventry City, Derby County and Norwich City.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has previously said: “Remarkably earlier this season the manager had an argument at a game with fans who had been giving Harrison some stick. Darren Ferguson knew, and I knew, what a talent our captain was and we’ve been proved right. If you back these lads they will respond and we have others waiting to come in.

"James Dornelly could be the best right-back we’ve ever had and it was great to see him involved at Wembley. And on the other side we have Harley Mills who will be ready to replace Harrison when I sell him for £6 million, £8 million, or £10million!”
