Celtic in mix to sign 'real talent' from the Premier League with bid lodged
Celtic have the chance to freshen up their squad with some new faces before the end of the transfer window
Celtic have a big Scottish Premiership away clash against Hearts coming up this weekend. The Hoops are six points behind the Jam Tarts in the table after 22 fixtures. Martin O’Neill is back in the dugout at Celtic Park following Wilfriend Nancy’s disastrous spell at the helm.
The Glasgow giants have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the January transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some players leave as well. That would help free up space and funds to pave the way for possible reinforcements.
Celtic lodge offer for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi
Celtic have an ‘offer on the table’ for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi along with Stoke City, according to Sky Sports. Swansea City have also looked into a move for the attacker this winter along with Coventry City and Ipswich Town. It remains to be seen where he will end up next.
Rak-Sakyi, 23, has spent the first-half of this season with Caykur Rizespor in the Turkish Super Lig. He scored four goals in 13 games during his time abroad. The ex-England youth international is now back at Selhurst Park and the Eagles will be weighing up what to do with him next.
The London-born man joined Crystal Palace back in 2019 following a spell at Chelsea and he has since been a regular for the South London outfit at various different youth levels to date. He has made 10 appearances for their first-team so far. The forward has also been loaned out in the past to Charlton Athletic and Sheffiedl United to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.
Will Celtic land ‘real talent’ Jesurun Rak-Sakyi?
Celtic could see Rak-Sakyi as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. In addition, he would offer them something different going forward.
Rak-Sakyi is someone who likes to cut in on his left foot from the right flank. Time will tell whether the Hoops will be able to lure him to Glasgow. English Championship teams are in the frame but won’t be able to offer him European football.
After landing him in 2024, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said: “His loan spell at Charlton really put him on the map and last season he enjoyed some Premier League experience, so with that in mind, he was always going to command interest. I'd like to thank Dougie Freedman and everyone at Palace for trusting us with the next stage of Jes's development. I've also got to mention our old mate Dean Henderson, who gave Jes a glowing reference of what we're about here.
"Many will have seen the speculation in the media over the last month, and some of the clubs linked, including ones in the Premier League, so I am really pleased that the lad has decided to come here. He's still young, and has lots to learn, but he has real talent and he's someone who has the ability to get the punters off their seats. Again, like some of the other players we've taken this summer, he's someone we'll enjoy working with."
