Celtic player emerges on West Ham transfer 'radar' as Irons links to Hoops star resurface after big moments
West Ham United are being linked with a raid on Celtic this transfer window.
A Celtic player has reportedly been identified as a possible transfer option for West Ham United, according to reports.
The London Stadium side are putting a dire season put behind them after suffering relegation out the Premier League. That means wholesale changes and one player they are said to like is Celtic’s Callum Osmand. The striker joined the Premiership champions from Fulham last year, and while injury wrecked his first season, a telling impact was made. He scored a decisive goal in a Premier Sports Cup semi-final versus rivals Rangers and notched a goal and assist in victory over Hearts that sealed title glory.
According to the West Ham Way, Osmand is a Celtic player on the Championship-bound Irons ‘radar.’ Interest is said to pre-date the Hoops as Osmand was viewed highly at Fulham and progress was tracked at another London club before he opted for Glasgow. West Ham United’s relegation will see a rebuild commence and younger players could be targeted as part of that.
Celtic Champions League hopes assessed
If he stays at Celtic, a crack at the Champions League could await Osmand, as winning the league unlocked a route back to the play-offs where they lost last year versus Kairat Almaty. Asked about the Champions League and the impact of Martin O’Neill’s backroom coaches behind the scenes at Celtic last month, Osmand said: “That would be unbelievable.
“I was on the bench for the two games at the start of this season, and it was tough watching, because I wanted to give something and I thought I could have helped the team. Hopefully we get it over the line this time and have Champions League football.
“They’re {O’Neill’s backroom staff} massive for the club and for us players. I think they’re the ones that we’ll go and talk to almost as much as Martin, that will go and help us with everything. Shaun is fantastic, and I don’t think people really see how much he’s done for the club. He’s been one of the main guys to help us and get us to win the title.
Callum Osmand on stint at Celtic so far
“And Mark Fotheringham as well, it’s just been amazing. His player-to-player chats that he has are just fantastic. As soon as he came in, he had a meeting with me and said he believes in me — and that was just amazing.
“It was just me and him and he sort of just told me everything that I’d been missing from before. And it really helped me. The first day he came in, I’d never met him, and I had a one-to-one with him, and he was just fantastic. It really inspired me to go and give what I could.”
