Celtic player ratings vs Dundee as stats experts name heroes and flops of Dens Park win named

Celtic won on the road in their latest Premiership clash with Dundee.

Celtic moved within three points of Premiership leaders Hearts with a 2-1 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

Having watched the Jambos draw at Livingston hours earlier, goals from Yang and Kelechi Iheanacho proved enough to seal a huge victory for Martin O’Neill’s men. Simon Murray had netted a penalty after a Colby Donovan handball but Iheanacho’s late strike compounded with a Dundee red card for Ryan Astley sealed matters.

Boss O’Neill told BBC Scotland: "I thought we played brilliantly in the first half, got our goal and should have got two, three or four. You always felt it would come back to haunt you and it did.

"They got their tails up after the penalty and it was really hard work. But we created another chance or two and Iheanacho puts one in the net. I think overall we deserved to win the game but it was always going to be tight. And we made it really tight."

Next up for the defending champions is a home game against St Mirren before a Scottish Cup semi-final against the same opponents precedes the highly-anticipated post-split games. Stats experts WhoScored rated the Celtic players at Dens Park. Here were the heroes and flops in the big win as per their metrics.

Viljami Sinisalo - 6.4/10

Growing into his role as number one with another commanding display.

Colby Donovan - 5.9/10

Left the referee no choice with red card incident and plays a part in his low ranking.

Auston Trusty - 6.9/10

A composed afternoon as he put injury concerns behind him.

Liam Scales - 6.6/10

Not rated as high as his partner but not much in it during what was a steady display.

Kieran Tierney - 6.9/10

Plays a part in the opener for Nygren and not troubled defensively all that much.

Callum McGregor - 7.2/10

Rated the second-highest out of the Celtic crop as the stats experts were impressed by the Hoops skipper.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6.6/10

Break looks to have done him some good as looked far sharper for time he was on the pitch.

Benjamin Nygren - 7/10

Credited with an assist as the numbers game in terms of goal contributions this term continue to mount.

Yang - 7.8/10

Got the goal in the first half and a threat going forward as he continues to grow in stature at Celtic.

Tomas Cvancara - 6.5/10

There’s a lot to be said about strikers who get in the positions to score but the Czech forward also missed two glaring one-on-ones. Had to be more composed.

Daizen Maeda - 7/10

Another rated highly in an energetic display going into final third areas.

Substitutes used: Kelechi Iheanacho, Anthony Ralston, Luke McCowan, James Forrest, Marcelo Sarrachi
