Celtic star given 'world class' label on specific attribute as Hoops hero hopes for no future injuries

Attacker returned to the action against Hearts in emphatic fashion

Former Celtic striker Tony Watt described striker Callum Osmand’s movement as ‘world class’ after his brace in the 7-1 demolition of Hearts.

The Welsh forward was deployed out wide during the Premiership clash and notched two goals in the first half. Manager Martin O’Neill denied him of a hat-trick by taking him off at half time, sparking concerns that he may have suffered a knock. However the manager has since described the change as ‘precautionary’.

Osmand has struggled with injuries at Celtic since his arrival from Fulham in the summer of 2025, however, when fit, he’s proved to be a real handful with his sheer pace alone. Watt, who currently plays for Glasgow rivals Partick Thistle, claims to have recognised his talent during a pre-season friendly. He reckons his movement is ‘world class’.

Why does Watt think Osmand’s movement is ‘world class’?

He told Clyde 1: "I seen enough of him last season to be excited. He works his socks off. But we played him in a pre-season friendly and his movement in behind, and I'm not exaggerating here, it was world class. His movement, I'm not saying he's a world class player, I'm saying his movement is.”

Last season, the Welshman impressed against FC Midtjylland before suffering a nasty hamstring injury, which ruled him out for most of the season. Watt is hoping his slight knock against the Jambos isn’t as severe. He continued: “I'm hoping it's not an injury because the boy's struggled with injuries.”

What did O’Neill say about Osmand’s performance vs Hearts?

After the match, the manager issued an injury update and lauded the Welshman. He said: “It was a hamstring problem at half-time (Osmand suffered), not surprising really because he's not played that much but it was more precautionary than anything else. Tim, the physiotherapist, said just leave him out and I think he would have said that even if it had been nil-nil.

“He has a goal-scoring instinct, there's no question about that. Definitely has that - and I'm not saying that wide left is his strongest position. He's small, so leading the line might be difficult for him, but playing alongside somebody quite strong, I think he could do really well. Listen, he wants to play anywhere, it doesn't matter to him if he's getting into the team.”
