Celtic transfer near miss ‘partially fuels’ club figure's departure as Rangers hint at injury boost
A round-up of the latest Celtic and Rangers headlines ahead of the return of the Scottish Premiership
Celtic and Rangers are back in Scottish Premiership action this weekend, as the Scotland national team heroes return to their clubs.
It’s been a week for the history books for the Tartan Army, who celebrated their side qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. A thrilling clash against Denmark ended almost three decades of hurt for Scotland, who are headed for North America in seven months after topping their qualifying group.
Celebrations are ongoing but focus now shifts back to domestic football, with Celtic and Rangers up against St Mirren and Livingston respectively on Saturday.
Celtic transfer near miss ‘partially fuels’ sporting director departure
Celtic had an overall underwhelming summer transfer window, which kicked up a lot debate among fans and caused friction between Brendan Rodgers and Dermot Desmond, following the former manager’s comments about the lack of action on the business front.
The Hoops had been linked with striker Kasper Dolberg but he ended up signing for former club Ajax instead. However, it’s been far from an ideal start to his second stint at the historic Dutch club.
Dolberg is yet to open his goalscoring account with Ajax and according to Dutch journalist Lentin Goodijk via Voetbalzone, the arrival of the Denmark international ‘partially fuelled’ supervisory director Danny Blind’s decision to leave the club.
Blind remains in his role until a replacement is found. The appointment of former manager John Heitinga, who was sacked a fortnight ago, and the loan signing of Liverpool midfielder James McConnell are also reportedly contributing factors to Blind’s pending departure.
Rangers drop injury boost ahead of Livingston clash
Rangers could benefit from a injury boost this week, if recent social media posts from the club are anything to go by.
The Gers will be gunning for their fourth consecutive league win this weekend when they host Livingston at Ibrox. New manager Danny Rohl has impressed since his arrival at the club and fans will be hoping to see more of the positive results coming their way.
Rangers Review reported two weeks ago that Dujon Sterling had returned to training with the first team, having been out of action for seven months with an Achilles injury. The 26-year-old has not featured for the Light Blues since April but he appears to be making tracks towards a long-awaited return to the pitch.
Sterling’s progress towards full fitness has been evident and he was spotted training with his teammates this morning. Rangers shared a video of the full-back during his training session across their social media platforms, which has raised some hope that he could be available for selection to face Livingston this weekend.
