Celtic transfer target arrives in Glasgow ahead of possible derby debut, Rangers eye 'swoop' for league rival

Here are some of the latest Rangers and Celtic transfer headlines.

The transfer window is open ahead of derby day as Rangers and Celtic look to get down to business.

Danny Rohl’s side have built some momentum heading into the away clash at Parkhead and could go level on points with the current Premiership champions with victory. His counterpart, Wilfried Nancy, is already under heavy pressure after five defeats from seven opening games at the Celtic helm.

Both head coaches now have chances to make additions as they see fit with the transfer window providing a chance for refinement. Here are some of the latest Rangers and Celtic headlines from a transfer perspective ahead of the Old Firm.

Celtic target could make derby debut

Julian Araujo is closing in on a loan move to Celtic from Bournemouth, and could debut in the derby this weekend, according to the Scottish Sun. The Mexican international was signed by Barcelona after form at LA Galaxy and has been with the Cherries since 2024, but the right-back could now come into the Celtic reckoning at a key time after reportedly arriving in Glasgow.

It’s stated: “Celtic are trying to finalise a loan deal for Bournemouth’s Julian Araujo. SunSport understands the right-back has now arrived in Glasgow as edges closer to a switch. Araujo has been pencilled in for an Old Firm debut by Wilfried Nancy and Celtic hope to conclude the deal in time for Saturday.

“Araujo won a move to Barcelona before being snapped up by Bournemouth in the summer of 2024 for £9million. Boss Andoni Iraola won’t stand in his way and a Celtic deal is imminent, providing the Cherries’ loan quota numbers are all in order.”

Motherwell star eyed by Rangers

Elliot Watt scored the winner for in-form Motherwell midweek as they downed Celtic 2-0. Their possession-heavy style of play under boss Jens Berthel Askou has taken many plaudits and Watt has been pivotal to that at the heart of midfield. The Scottish Sun now claim the former Bradford City and Wolves man is being eyed by Rohl.

It’s said: “Rangers are keeping tabs on Motherwell’s Elliot Watt. SunSport can reveal Gers boss Danny Rohl is an admirer of the midfielder, who is enjoying a standout season at Fir Park. No official contact has been made but the 25-year-old IS on Rohl’s radar as Gers eye a possible swoop. With others beginning to circle, Gers could be forced to move quickly.”

Watt said after beating Celtic midweek that followed on from a 1-0 loss against Rangers the game prior: “It feels as though it's been coming against the big sides. We've been really frustrated this season that we maybe haven't got the points our performances deserved against the so-called bigger clubs and especially off the back of the last result at Ibrox were it felt as though we at least deserved something out of the game. So it was huge bouncing back and showing our mentality and our quality. Believe it or not, we didn't really work on anything in the final third. It was the tactical tweaks the manager wanted to implement that he felt could get us the result. The manager's incredible. He sees things that many of us don't.”
