Former Celtic talent provides update on QPR future amid Aberdeen interest as he aims to silence doubters

The former Celtic talent made a big move away from Parkhead but is back in Scotland on loan from QPR.

A former Celtic talent has provided an update on his future at Aberdeen, where he’s spending time on loan from QPR.

Liam Morrison turned heads early in his career as he swapped Parkhead for German giants Bayern Munich. He’d feature in their youth ranks before a loan to Wigan and permanent switch to QPR in 2024. Morrison has been with Aberdeen for the second half of the season and a win over Livingston on Friday night should see the Dons secure their Premiership status.

Aberdeen would be keen on keeping the ex Celtic talent but their QPR loanee has focus only for silencing critics. He said: "I haven’t given it any thought because my full focus is on finishing the season as strongly as possible. A lot of people wrote us off, they were expecting us to be down there in 11th position. People doubted us and you could feel they were hoping for that, trying to pile the pressure on.

"There has been a lot of outside noise, this is a massive club and it's not normal for Aberdeen to be in this position. We had to stick together and we stood up to it. I think we've shown what we can do in the last couple of weeks, but we have to keep picking up results to prove them wrong.

"Did it motivate us? You always look at ways to get motivation, but, as a team we knew we were better than how we were doing. We wanted to prove to everyone that we're a good side, that we can win games by defending strongly. What happened can happen to any team, it wasn't working and you have to get on the training pitch to find ways to get winning again.

"The gaffer came in, he's brought a real stability and defensive structure. We knew we had quality players up front so we'd get goals if we sorted certain things. The gaffer is very enthusiastic, he's great at what he does and has brought belief to the squad. There's a togetherness and you can see that on the pitch.

"There's been a lot of hard work, building relationships, that's so important in a defence because you need to know what your partner is going to do. We have defended for our lives lately, we knew what was on the line so we knew we couldn't concede. The table looks a bit better now but we still have to finish the season strongly.

"It's all fresh and new under the manager and it's not going to happen overnight, but I think you've seen more in the last two games what we're trying to do. We have been more solid, we've had two clean sheets and are getting into good areas to score goals.

"We've focused on putting teams under pressure from the start and playing the game in their half. That's better than having to defend early on in games, it helps you keep on top of them and it has worked out for us."
