I sampled the 'incredible' Celtic Park atmosphere with Bayern Munich - I can't wait to return with Stuttgart

The Stuttgart camp are in bullish mood ahead of their visit to Celtic Park for the Europa League knockout play-off first leg

Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness has already sampled how special a European night is at Parkhead - and he has already laid out a game plan that could aid their chances of securing a victory in Thursday’s showdown with Celtic.

The Bundesliga outfit travel to Glasgow for the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday night, with Hoeness - nephew of German icon Uli - preparing to manage a senior team on Scottish soil for the first time.

However, the city holds good memories for the 43-year-old, having previously been in charge of Bayern Munich Under 19 side who ran out 2-1 winners over the young Celts in the UEFA Youth League back in 2017 - with the game being staged in the more modest surrounding of Cappielow Park in front of just over 300 fans.

Following their triumph, Hoeness can recall heading along to Celtic Park later that night to watch from the stands as the senior Bayern side repeated the same score line after goals from Javi Martinez and Kingsley Coman, sandwiched between Callum McGregor equaliser.

“Jupp Heynckes was the manager, and it was a tough game. It's difficult, but highly motivating to play there. But we go there with confidence because we are in good form right now.”

Defender Jeff Chabot admits he is relishing the chance to experience the famed Celtic Park atmosphere after watching several clips on social media. He said: “I've watched videos of Celtic Park and also some of their famous Champions League matches from a few years back.

“There were some huge games there. So we are looking forward to the atmosphere and a fantastic match. Of course, we have respect for Celtic, but the anticipation outweighs everything else.

“We can go there with our heads held high because we've been performing well for months. We're in good form right now.”
