Leigh Griffiths ‘in talks’ with unnamed club in Australia as ex-Celtic striker aims to resurrect career abroad
The former Scotland international is plotting his next move and it appears he could be heading overseas...
The 31-year-old has been without a club since leaving League One side Falkirk at the end of last season and is depserately trying to get his future resolved ahead of the new season.
Griffiths had been training with Premiership side Livingston in recent weeks as he attempts to keep his fitness levels up after well-documented reports about his bodyweight during a six-month loan spell at old club Dundee last term.
His career has plummeted during the last 12 months, leading to his release from Parkhead in January but according to the Scottish Sun, Griffiths is currently locked in discussions about an overseas move, with Australia an possible destination.
It is believed the ex-Hoops star has turned down offers from various Scottish Championship clubs after stating he believes that he can still play at the “highest level”.
Livingston boss David Martindale praised Griffiths’ attitude during his short training spell with the club, despite knowing the offer of a contract was NOT on the table.
He admitted: “Leigh has not been in (this week), I think he is talking to a club, I don’t know where but it’s not my place to say anyway.
“I had him in last week, he was in doing extra shifts, me, him and Brucey (Anderson).
“I know this about Leigh Griffiths, he is a fantastic boy in and around the club. I can’t comment on Leigh’s history, I can just comment on when he was here.
“He looked in good shape, had lost a lot of weight from the time I saw him in the Dundee game. His body fats were really low in comparison to that.
“We were doing some striker drills, his quality is incredible, honestly. He is still needing a wee bit of match sharpness but some of his finishing and his touches were incredible.
“Even that wee hour we spent together, Brucey was able to pick up on a few points.
“As much as we gave Leigh somewhere to come and keep fit, I need to thank him as well because he was genuinely very positive around the place and he was a pleasure to coach.”
