Charity football at Broadwood

A CHARITY seven-a-side football tournament is being held at Cumbernauld’s Broadwood Stadium this weekend.

The event is being held to raise funds for CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) and ScotERVS (Scottish Emergency Rider Volunteer Service).

This is the fourth year that the tournament has taken place with the previous years raising in the region of £1200-£2000.

Co-organiser John Bleasedale said: “We run this event as it combines our two great passions - football and raising funds for good causes.

“The event will consist of 16 teams who will participate in four groups of four with the top two progressing to the knockout stages. In short, it’s a similar format to the European Championships. The teams are largely made up of local businesses, organisations and friends who organise their own regular seven-a-side games.”

In addition to the football, there will also be a cake and candy stall, CHAS dogs Amber and Rosie, a CHAS stall, a ScotsERVS motorbike and a raffle to win some great prizes.

The event takes place on Sunday, July 1, from noon until 5 p.m.
