Clyde aiming to topple leaders

The Bully Wee racked up two victories on the trot for the first time this season when they won away to League Two’s bottom side Arbroath last week.

Now Barry Ferguson’s side are out to defeat the side at the other end of the table as the title favourites seek to kickstart their drive for promotion.

As has been the case for most of his side’s games this season Ferguson was satisfied with some - but not all - aspects of his players’ performance at Arbroath.

He said: “In the first half we were the better team. The second half, I’ve said to them that I wasn’t happy with the performance.

“We dug in and kept our shape well second half and managed three or four chances. But first half they were there to be got at. I think we could have had two or three more goals.”

Ferguson admitted that his side were fortunate when Arbroath hit the post in stoppage time, but felt it was something Clyde were due after not getting breaks in previous games.

He said “We got a slice of luck at the end there. In the two defeats we’ve had to Queen’s Park and Montrose we’ve not had any luck because we’ve missed quite a lot of chances.

“We were the better team and Gibson was never put under any real pressure. We had to change the system a wee bit a couple of the boys were kind of struggling.

Overall I’m happy to come away with the three points because the club’s not really got a great record here.

Ferguson was also pleased with the performance of midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern, his midweek recruit from Stirling Albion.

He said: “I thought Jon-Paul was excellent coming in for us today, he’ll be a big player for us.

“I enjoy the pressure, there’s no point being in football if there’s no pressure. Overall we’ve done well at the start of the season, there’s still a lot of improvements to come.”

“We’ll get there, it’s a whole new group so it takes time.”
