The only goal of the game came after 13 minutes when Adam Frizzell latched onto a through pass and clipped the ball over David Mitchell.

The Bully Wee could have been further behind at the break, only a fine Mitchell save denying Frizzell a second.

Danny Lennon brought on Kristoffer Syvertsen for Josh Jack at half-time and the Norwegian forward almost made an immediate impact with a shot deflected into the side netting.

David Goodwillie uncharacteristically shot wide when one-on-one with Sons keeper Kevin Dabrowski and Syvertsen brought out two further saves from Dabrowski.

But the visitors couldn’t find the equaliser and paid the price for their disappointing first-half display.

Manager Lennon admitted: “The contrast in the two halves was enormous in terms of the tempo and intensity that we played at.”
