Clyde boss Ferguson says he doesn't do giving up

Barry Ferguson was a frustrated boss after seeing two points slip away against Montrose.

Clyde manager Barry Ferguson was an unhappy man after seeing his side drop points at home for the second week in a row.

Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Montrose, which followed defeat by Arbroath the previous week, means the Bully Wee are now four points behind East Fife with four games to play.

And while Ferguson refused to publicly criticise his players, he could not hide his dissatisfaction with the result.

He said: “That’s the only thing I can say, disappointed. What I’ve said in the dressing room will stay in the dressing room, I won’t criticise anybody, it’s not in my make-up, but it’s disappointing.”

Recent results mean winning the league is no longer in Clyde’s hands. They will travel to Berwick on Saturday before a crunch tie at home to the league leaders.

Even if they were to win that match they require East Fife to drop points elsewhere. Despite this, Ferguson refused to concede the title.

He said: “I don’t give up, it’s not in my mentality.”

Clyde have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches – conceding eight in total – and it is the manner in which they have conceded that worries Ferguson.

He said: “Of course I’m concerned, they’re simple goals, it’s easy for the teams.

“The first goal, a couple of players don’t shut down the boy who crosses it, then in the second phase we don’t close down and the guy gets a free shot.

“Second goal, we don’t get close enough, but we’re 2-1 up at that time and I’ve got enough experience to see it out, that’s the disappointing thing. But listen, Montrose deserved their point.”
