Clyde finally picked up their first points of 2016 on Saturday when they defeated Berwick Rangers 2-1 at Broadwood.

But while he was relieved at the victory Bully Wee boss Barry Ferguson was anything but happy with his side’s performance.

Clyde had lost four games on the trot, and slipped down to seventh in the table, prior to the must-win clash with ninth-placed Berwick.

However all looked well when debutant John Gemmell headed in to put them 2-0 up on half an hour, seconds after Scott Linton tucked away a penalty for the opener.

The home side did eventually hold out for the three points despite Ewan McNeil pulling one back for the visitors with a speculative effort on 70 minutes, but Ferguson was not prepared to accept his side’s display.

He said: “We weren’t good enough, it’s that simple. I’m not happy at all with out performance.

“We need to play better for a start. The first half was alright in terms of our tempo. [In terms of] the football, we never played great, but the second half I’m not accepting. It wasn’t good enough.

“The players probably realise, and they’ve been told that.”

According to the manager, Gemmell getting off the mark was the only positive to take from the match, other than the three points.

He said: “That’s the only plus point [the three points], that and Gemmell scoring. Apart from that I take nothing from that game.

“I thought at times he and Gormley linked up really well, so I’m hoping he’ll score goals, which he’s obviously done today.”
