Clyde start festive spell with East Fife test

Between now and January 2 Barry Ferguson’s side have three home matches plus a Boxing Day trip to face League 2 leaders Annan.

An unbeaten run of four games since their shock Scottish Cup exit at Formartine, including wins in their last three matches, have pushed Clyde up to second, although their momentum was halted last week when their game at East Stirling was rained off.

And one player who has played a key part is midfielder David Marsh - a local boy who is making good.

Signed from local junior side Cumbernauld United as a central defender, the 25-year-old former Clyde ball boy is now playing in midfield and delighted to be an integral part of his boyhood heroes’ promotion bid.

He told the club website: “I was born in Cumbernauld so Clyde has always been my local team.

“I used to always kick a ball about down at Broadwood. When I must have been about 12, I was walking by the stadium when there was a Clyde game on so I said to the guy on the door, ‘how do you become a ball boy?’. He told me that all I had to do was turn up at quarter to three on a Saturday. That was it, I ended up being a ball boy at every game for two years.

“The transition from defence to midfield means I am definitely involved a lot more and the fact that the results have been good makes it so much better. If I had gone into midfield and we were losing every week I would start to question, is this really for me? But the fact that we’ve had a good run is certainly a positive.”
