The home side had gone ahead thanks to a phenomenal header by Melissa Porter at the back post, Porter rising unopposed to power home a Frances Fern corner in the 18th minute.

The visitors evened things up six minutes after the break when Claire Docherty drove into the Colts penalty area unchallenged and finished passed McPhee.

Halfway through the second half the home side took the lead again.

Substitute Pamela Martin threaded a pass through to Fern and the forward prodded the ball behind Hunter in the Killie goal.

Kilmarnock showed a resilience and a desire to get something out of the match and pulled it back again five minutes after going behind.

The fifth, final and decisive goal saw Kilmarnock go ahead for the first and most important time with six minutes left as Sara Paterson drilled in a free kick from around 25 yards which sailed over the Colts keeper.

The home side did their all to get something from the match but came up short.

After the match Colts manager Julie McSherry said she was disappointed to have suffered back to back defeats, having lost the previous against Motherwell.

She said: “We thought we’d have enough to get back to winning ways, but we shot ourselves in the foot today.

“We’ll go back and analyse where we think we’ve made mistakes and try to put this right for next weeks match against Celtic.”
