Colts still on the climb after fifth successive league win

The Broadwood side have bounced back after a difficult start to the campaign with defeats in their opening two league matches and an Irn Bru Cup exit.

After having good periods in possession Colts found themselves behind after a lapse in concentration at the back let Vale’s winger in behind and the ball then broke for Michael Stewart to put Vale of Leithen 1-0 up.

The visitors though did well to settle themselves down in the search for an equaliser and managed to create some chances, the best of which was when Ross Kavanagh found himself one on one with the goalkeeper only to blaze the ball over the bar.

The goal came shortly after though from a good move down the right hand side. Colts full-back Ryan Milne did well to work space for a cross which landed at the feet of Owen Ronald to fire Colts level.

Vale of Leithen created some good chances for themselves also, taking advantage of some nervous defending from Colts which required experienced goalkeeper Chris Fahey to make a series of important saves to keep the score level before the half-time whistle.

As the second half got under way it was Colts who were out of the traps quicker. Winger Ronald, involved in the thick of the action again, did well down the right hand side to tee up midfielder Craig Murray who was unmarked in the box and managed to slot the ball into the net to put Colts 2-1 ahead.

From here the visitors took control of the game and dominated possession, although they failed to make the possession count and there were to be no more goals.

It was not to be an easy finish for Colts though, as the home side worked hard until the last minute and created some very good chances to score and could have drawn level if not for a string of excellent saves from Fahey proving his worth once again.
