There was little in the way of quality on show throughout the game, with both teams struggling to get to grips with a difficult playing surface.

The Bully Wee created the first clear cut chance on 21 minutes when Scott McLaughlin’s free kick missed his teammates but dipped awkwardly enough to trouble opposition keeper David McGurn.

Clyde had another opportunity moments later- Peter MacDonald did well to control the ball at the edge of the box before volleying a shot over the crossbar.

Cowdenbeath’s Kris Renton came close on the half hour mark- with Ewan McNeil doing well to block his effort from just outside the penalty box. Overall though, the first half was pretty much devoid of any clear cut goalscoring opportunities.

In the second half, David Gormley was unlucky not to get the breakthrough for Barry Ferguson’s men as his stinging volley was blocked on the line.

Then, in the 53rd minute Sean Higins picked up Peter MacDonald’s nodded header but he couldn’t divert the ball past the keeper- his sliding shot cleared by McGurn.

Chances started to diminish after this, with the game looking destined to end goalless. It was Cowdenbeath though that snatched a late winner, coming from striker Kris Renton in the 85th minute.

The Clyde defence were caught out by a long ball over the top- substitute Cameron Muirhead then flicked the ball up and past the keeper, before Kris Renton headed the ball into the empty net.

The Bully Wee had a chance to spare their blushes in added time, but it wasn’t to be as Scott Ferguson’s swiped shot went across the face of goal and out for a goal-kick.
