Colts are strong favourites to overcome a Threave side who have lost all but one of their 15 games so far, including a 3-1 defeat at Broadwood in September.

Colts go into the match looking to bounce back from two successive away defeats, in league and cup, at Spartans.

And co-manager Craig McKinlay admitted his side were kicking themselves for failing to come away from Ainslie Park last week still in the South of Scotland Cup.

He said: “We played our game plan, created a number of chances and scored an excellent goal through Blair Munn.

“But to then lose a goal in the last minute was a hard one to take. We were kicking ourselves because it came when they broke away from our corner.

“We perhaps had too many players up the pitch and left ourselves exposed.”

Despite the defeat McKinlay is pleased with the progress Colts are making.

He said: “We can take a lot from the game because it shows how far we have come through the season.

“Make no mistake about it, they are a good side but we certainly did enough to take positives into the rest of the campaign. We have nine games left and just want to win as many as we can and finish as high up the table as possible.

“We play Threave on Saturday and while people will expect us to win the game, them being bottom of the league can make them more dangerous in some ways, so we are taking nothing for granted.”

And with an eye on the squad for next season, McKinlay is also pleased being made through the club’s pathway by some of their under-20 development side players.

In particular Jordan Pirrie and Jeff Fergus have caught the eye and both made their first starts at Spartans last week after a number of substitute appearances.
