Cumbernauld Colts take on Edinburgh University hoping to learn Lowland League lessons

It’s the new boys’ 10th match of the campaign with the previous nine having produced four wins, four defeats and a draw.

The past three games have produced a mixed bag with a first home win of the season over Threave followed by a 4-0 drubbing by Spartans before last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Gala Fairydean Rovers.

Colts’ co-manager Craig McKinlay is relatively happy with the progress being made by his side as they find their fight in Scottish football’s new ‘fifth tier’.

He said: “After getting our first home win the Spartans game was a bit of a lesson us. They are the best team we have come up against this year.

“You never like losing but it was a good lesson in that it showed the players the kind of quality teams in this league possess and stops us getting carried away.

“It was important that we showed a reaction and took something from the game at Gala, although we were disappointed not to win.

“We remain undefeated away from home but we want to improve our home form and while we expect Edinburgh give us a difficult match Saturday is as good a time as any to do that.”
