James Orr’s men handed their opponents their first home defeat in two years to set up a Boxing Day trip to the Highlands to face Huntly in first round proper.

Lee Whitemore nearly gave Colts the lead on 23 minutes straight from a corner as Tynecastle keeper Kyle Leiper was forced to punch the ball off his own bar, with a debate whether it had crossed the line.

That didn’t bother the Colts though and a minute later they were in front.

After two last time out against Spartans, Ewan MacPherson continued his scoring spree; Craig Murray lifted the ball over the top and the striker finished calmly past Leiper from the angle.

Murray was again involved as Colts soon made it 2-0, the midfielder lining up a free-kick and smashing it home a dripping effort via the underside of the bar.

The hosts found a way back into the game when a couple of slips at the back allowed Ryan Cameron to race through before being caught late by keeper Jonathan Grier.

The referee pointed to the spot and dished out a yellow card for Grier before Taylor Hendry duly netted.

After the break, Colts restored their two goal cushion with a magnificent first-time volley from Fraser Team into the roof of the net from Murray’s long ball.

Once again though, just four minutes later, Tynecastle pulled one back as Jack Beaumont beat the Colts wall and Grier with another excellent free-kick strike.

But as the challenges continued to fly in in a hotly-contested cup tie, Colts held on to prevail after a very entertaining 90 minutes.
