And there was nothing fortunate about the result as the underdogs more than matched their put of touch opponents in Saturday’s second round tie at Guy’s Meadow.

Rabs spurned early chances as Whelan fired into the side netting in the first minute, Duff’s low volley was pushed wide by ’keeper Thomson and Duff skied a 20 yard free-kick over the bar.

As the half wore on Wishaw began to push forward and Paul McGeoch’s drive was deflected past before home ’keeper Murdoch was forced into a fine save.

Wishaw took the lead on the half hour when Daniel Kindlan fired past Murdoch.

Just before the interval Murdoch managed to block McGuire’s shot with his legs but only two minutes of the second half had elapsed when Wishaw doubled their advantage.

Craig Crawford’s shot from distance deflected from Carter to deceive Murdoch and land in the back of the net.

Rabs had plenty of possession but their finishing was abysmal and Wishaw looked in command as the match entered its final quarter.

They could have added to their total in the 75th minute but substitute McGroarty screwed his shot wide from six yards with only Murdoch to beat.

At the other end Aitken passed up a glorious chance to give Rabs a much needed lifeline but when through on a one to one with Thomson fired his shot against the onrushing keeper.

With 3 minutes remaining Wishaw put the game completely out of reach of their inept opponents when MacKenzie failed to deal with a forward pass from defence, allowing Kindlan to run on and neatly slot the ball past Murdoch.
