Danny Lennon says Clyde must act on basic instinct after Airdrie loss

Dodgy defending allowed Airdrie to race into a three-goal lead after just 21 minutes.

And although Barry Cuddihy and Ally Love did find the net for the Bully Wee, another Airdrie goal in between allowed the visitors to run out 4-2 winners.

He said: “It was a mountain to climb from the first half. Once again, we’re disappointed because we’ve not defended set-plays, which is a real concern.

“I know that conditions had a big part to play, but there are still balls coming in there that we should be dealing with more comfortably.

“We know the physical strength that Airdrie possess and it was errors that cost us.

“At 3-1, I thought the next goal was going to be the most important one and to lose it from a long ball coming into the box and fail to do the basics and get the ball away was disappointing.

“Things that we’ve not done particularly well have cost us enormously. What’s really killed us is the basics and it’s something that has to be eradicated very quickly.

“It’s very much a rollercoaster that we’re on at the moment.

“We’ve got to get more consistent.”

Clyde's first game of the new year sees then travel to Firhill to face traditional Glasgow derby rivals Partick Thistle.

The Bully Wee won 1-0 when the sides met at Broadwood on the opening day of the season.
