Glasgow double winners Bishopbriggs Academy added to their trophy haul by defeating Lenzie Academy in the under-18s final - but only on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Bishopbriggs started strongly and the Lenzie rearguard had to be on their mettle to keep their goal intact.

However the G66 boys did threaten themselves when Andy Henderson broke through only to hit the wrong side of the post.

On the 25-minute mark, the deadlock was broken as Bishopbriggs’ Jordan Armstrong pounced on a corner from the left and shot his team ahead.

The game remained tight after the interval with few clearcut chances offered, although ‘Briggs’ Jonny Scott rattled the Lenzie bar with a snap shot.

Gradually though, Lenzie began to exert some pressure and came within a whisker of equalising when a long through ball eluded Bishopbriggs’ ‘keeper Mark McMillan and bounced back off the post.

With 10 minutes remaining Lenzie’s endeavours eventually paid off, Ewan Macpherson setting up Greg Burns who finished with aplomb and after no further scoring, the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued.

With three fantastic saves, Bishopbriggs goalie McMillan emerged the hero of the hour, allowing left-winger Armstrong to convert his kick and capture the cup. Bishopbriggs captain Greg Molloy was named Timpsons’ Man of the Match.

There was further disappointment for Lenzie in the under-16s final as they again finished rtunners-up, going down 2-0 to Turnbull High. First-half goals from Lewis Bradley and Ryan Conlon put the Bishopbriggs team in the driving seat.

However there was joy for Lenzie at the younger age groups in Lennoxtown: Turnbull were defeated 3-2 at under-15 level with goals from Chris Cullen, Lewis Groom and Joe Thomson.
