The Bully Wee boss highlighted his performance as one of the plus points of last Saturday’s win over Montrose.

But he also admitted he has warned the 20-year-old midfielder that he’ll have to work hard if he wants to make a success of his football career.

Ferguson (senior, that is) said: “I gave him a proper talking to. He’s certainly got all the ability in the world. He needs to get fitter and needs to get stronger. And he’s obviously taken on board what I’ve said.

“There’s nobody more than me who wants to see him do it. I think he’s got everything to play at a higher level. But the penny needs to drop. You need to work seriously hard if you want to play at a higher level. But it’s good to see.

“I’ve taken him out the team and he could have moped and hid in the corner. But he’s worked really hard in training, done a little bit more work.

“If you work really hard in training it filters in to a Saturday and that’s what happened today. That’s the Scott Ferguson I want to see every week.”

The Clyde boss believes the Bellshill-born player is as good as some of the younger players in the Scottish Premiership, but stressed that he has to put in the effort required.

He said: “He needs to work hard. I just hope what I’ve told him hasn’t gone in one ear and out the other. I hope it’s stuck somewhere in the middle.

“I’ve got a lot of time for him. And he’s got a good second name.”
