A tremendous second half fightback against Pollok saw Rob Roy move to the brink of premier division survival on Saturday.

The Kirkintilloch team were 2-0 down at half time but four goals without reply in the second 45 minutes - including a hat-trick by super striker Willie Sawyers - made sure they banked three vital points.

It leaves Rabs flying high in fourth place and, more crucially, nine points above the team currently sitting in the relegation playoff spot.

Gaffer Stewart Maxwell said: “We started off the brighter team and created more than them but we weren’t great on the ball.

“I said to the boys at half time that 2-0 is a dangerous score for the team in the lead.

“We changed the formation into a more attacking shape and had our best 35 minute spell of the whole season - we absolutely blew them away.

“It was a massive result for us and means we’re just one win away from survival.

“I’m proud of the team and the supporters who turned out in force - the atmosphere was electric.

“The team’s time at Adamslie Park is coming to an end and we only have one league home match to play this season. It was good to play a game like this and add to the memories the ground holds.”

This weekend will see Rob Roy take on Greenock Juniors in the second round of the Central League Cup and Maxwell is hoping that he can deliver fans a cup run.

He said: “We’ve shown that we can beat any team on our day which makes us a good cup side.

“Hopefully we will get the win we need in the league soon so we can focus on the cup and play more freely.”

Rob Roy play Greenock Juniors on Saturday at Ravenscraig Stadium. Kick off is at 1.45pm.
