The 38-year-old Scot – a former junior captain and champion at Hilton Park Golf Club in Milngavie – carded rounds of 74 and 71 for a 36-hole one-over par total.

That left him tied for 32nd and guaranteed he would make the cut, unlike some of the sport's illustrious big names including Rory McIlroy and defending champion Dustin Johnson.

And with the leaderboard tightly bunched another good round could propel him further up in the standings.

Laird is in his fourth Masters and his best finish - indeed his best ever finish in a major - is tied 20th on his debut in 2011.

The following year he finished tied 57th but in 2013, his last appearance at Augusta, he failed to make cut.

Laird has been paired with Spanish star Jon Rahm for Saturday's third round.
