Friendly joy for Rob Roy

ROB Roy fans look set for a season of success after the team won SIX out of seven pre-season friendlies - including a first division scalp.

Rabs’ turned in a number of impressive performances during July and early August with victories against Threave Rovers (2-1), Bellshill Athletic (4-3), Banks O’ Dee (1-0), Stonehaven (3-1), Airdrie United (4-3) and Blackburn United (4-0).

The only pre-season game the Adamslie squad lost was against Camelon Juniors, with the Falkirk side winning 3-1.

Rabs gaffer Jimmy Lindsay is delighted with the early signs - particularly since he’s been testing out some new signings amongst his core squad from last season.

Since June, Kevin McBride and Chris Mackie have left the club, but Lindsay has made two headline signings in Chic Connolly from Cumnock and Kevin Bradley from Pollok.

And the squad has been bolstered by four promising young amateurs from Ardrossan.

Lindsay told the Herald: “The boys are all doing very well so far and I’m pleased with them.

“The amateurs are coming from a league down so we’ll have to give them a little more time to settle in and get used to every game being played at a high tempo.”

This week saw things kick-off in earnest for Rob Roy with a hectic schedule of games in the Sectional League Cup.

On Monday, Cumbernauld United were the visitors to Adamslie Park and tonight (Wednesday) Rabs are away to Dunipace at Westfield Park.

This coming Saturday (August, 11) Adamslie Park will be the venue for a derby cup clash when Rob Roy take on Bishopbriggs side Rossvale.
