This was a very welcome three points for Rangers at Renfrew which lifts them one place in the league table, giving them a fighting chance of maintaining their Super League status.

It was not a great display of football from either side though, the importance of taking something from the game coupled with a very bumpy pitch and a strong crosswind did not lend itself to pretty play.

Renfrew were first to show. They were up around Rangers’ end from the start and Duke was twice called on the first few minutes to show his worth.

Rangers attacks were sporadic, mainly coming to nothing and O’Neill in the home goal was hardly troubled in the first 20 minutes or so.

Duke had another very good save following a corner, tipping it over the bar to concede another.

After the half hour Rangers finally began to show and McLaren was right through on goal but put his shot wide of the mark.

Almost on the half-time whistle Kerr dived in with a very rash two-footed tackle on McDade which earned him a straight red card and Rangers were down to ten men.
