But despite seeing his side slide down the table the Rab’s boss believes his side can get back on track if they get that little bit of luck.

Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Kilbirnie Ladeside stretched Rob Roy’s ruin to just one win in nine league games.

But despite watching his side go from title contenders to a team battling to stay out of the relegation dogfight, Maxwell still has belief in his players who face Arthurlie at home on Saturday.

He said: “At the start of the season the aim as a newly promoted club was to stay in the league. That has never changed, even when we were at the top of the league.

“I always said that you can easily slide down the league with two or three defeats and that’s the way it has gone.

“I don’t want to use it as the only excuse but we have been decimated by injuries.

“A club of Rob Roy’s budget can’t afford to do without key players for big chunks of the season but that’s what we have been faced with and it’s really stretched us.

“But even at Kilbirnie on Saturday we were doing OK until we lost three quick goals.

“When you’re struggling it’s always even more difficult when you lose the first goal.

“But I still have belief in the guys and if we can just get that little bit of luck which can change a game - a deflection, a refereeing decision - we can turn it around.”
