Unbeaten Goldenhill were the opposition and how the two sides responded!

Watch went ahead in the ninth minute. Aitken took a pass from full-back Welsh and the striker raced away from defenders Henry and Cockburn then beat keeper Gallagher from 12 yards.

One minute later the visitors equalised with a superbly struck goal by Cramond, who hit a 25-yard volley high above keeper Martin Storey.

It was evident to players and spectators that Watch were now facing really good opposition. This was a challenge Black Watch players needed and they responded magnificently. They went 2-1 in front in the 40th minute after clever play down the left. O’Connor passed to Cairney onto Prentice, who found McIlroy and he netted from 15 yards.

This was competition at its best and once again proves 21s football is hard to beat. It was hard to say who would come out on top in this epic battle.

Blackies edged further ahead in the 59th minute and the third goal was positively brilliant. A corner from McIlroy on the right was cleared by the visiting defence only to land in the path of full-back Jordan Welsh and from 35 yards the young Motherwell boy hit a shot with all the power and accuracy that was possible – hitting the back of the net behind keeper Gallagher.

This was a special game with both sides bringing out their best with never a dull minute.

Striker Wallace pulled Goldenhill back into the match with a clever goal in the 79th minute after McGlinchey set up the opportunity.

Watch were not finished and, to complete an outstanding afternoon for the club, they made it 4-2 in the 87th minute. A long ball from Meechan onto Logan was quickly played to McIlroy. The wing-back gave the keeper no chance from 12 yards.

Every player on the pitch was outstanding in another 90 minutes that never stopped still in entertainment – quality at its best.
